Fields of application

For indoor use on walls and floors

• For the seamless waterproofing, without joints, of moist and wet rooms under ceramic tiles in private bathrooms with bathtubs, showers, toilets and kitchens.
• Can be used for exposure class A0 in accordance with the information sheet ”Notes on bonded waterproofing with coatings and coverings of tiles and slabs in indoor and outdoor applications” issued by Fachverband des Deutschen Fliesengewerbes.
• For waterproofing in the case of water exposure classes WO-I, W1-I, W2-I (wall) in accordance with DIN 18534.
• In the case of floors with insulating layers, the waterproofing must be applied immediately on the load distribution layer (screed).
• May also be used on heated screeds.
• The availability in 2 colors facilitates optical inspection of the layers and ensures that waterproofing is applied in accordance with the standard.

Substrate Preparation

• PCI CL 51 single-component waterproofing membrane bonds to all dry, firm, solid, stable, clean substrates which are ready for tiling and free from substances which may impair adhesion (e.g. release agents, loose material, dust, sand, accumulations of binder, efflorescences, dirt).
• Dusty substrates which release sand must be swept and primed with PCI CT 17.
• The surface of the substrate must be sufficiently level and free from penetrating cracks. PCI CL 51 may be used on mineral substrates e.g. renders of mortar groups P Ic, P II and P III, concrete, fully jointed masonry, cement screed, mastic asphalt screed, dry screed made up from cement fiber slabs and wall panels made from plaster, plasterboard, fiberboard, plaster slabs, gypsum-bound leveling compounds, aerated concrete panels, hollow wall panels made from lightweight concrete and old ceramic coverings, composite elements made from closed-cell hard foam with mortar coating.
• In the case of calcium-sulphate-bound flowable screeds (which must be mechanically roughened, freed from dust and primed with PCI CT 17), anhydrite screeds and gypsum-bound leveling compounds, the moisture content must be ≤ 0.5 % by weight. With gypsum plasters (P IVa/b and P V) the moisture content must be ≤ 1.0 % by weight. Gypsum plasters must be sufficiently stable and the surface must be sufficiently strong. The average thickness of the plaster layer must be 15 mm. Plaster layers of ≤ 10 mm are not permissible. The plaster surface must not be smoothed down but scraped off. Penetration of moisture into the calcium sulphate bound substrate, e.g. via an external wall, must not be possible.
• After application of the waterproofing, the substrate must deform only to a limited extent, i.e. surface deformations must largely have been completed.

Application

Apply PCI CL 51 undiluted with lambswool roller, brush or smoothing trowel.

For a water-tight protective layer, at least two coats with a total dry film thickness of at least 0.5 mm are required.

The second coat may already be applied after about 2 hours. About 6 hours after the application of the second coat, work may continue, for example with PCI CM 90 EasyFlex PLUS, PCI CM 17 flexible adhesive S1 or PCI CM 117 flexible adhesive. Expansion and connecting joints must be covered by PCI C 62 Ultra-Flex waterproofing tapes and wall connections and floor drains with CL 63 Ultra-Flex waterproofing collar for walls or CL 64 Ultratape waterproofing collar for floors within the bonded system. Corners must be waterproofed using PCI CL 65 Ultratape inner waterproofing corner or PCI CL 66 Ultratape outer waterproofing corner. The waterproofing tape or collars must be inserted in the first coat of material and bonded to the waterproofing membrane by the second coat.

In order to facilitate inspection of coating thickness, it is recommended to use grey for the first coat and white for the subsequent coats. If the color of the previous layer can be seen, the coat is too thin. This situation must be avoided.

Please note

This product must be used only in dry conditions at temperatures from +5 °C to +30 °C. Moisture from the rear and chemical exposure must be durably excluded. Please refer to DIN 18534 and the information sheet issued by Zentralverband des Deutschen Baugewerbes e.V. (ZDB – Central Association of the German Building Trade).

For waterproofing in swimming pools and permanently wet areas, use PCI Seccoral 1K single-component flexible waterproofing slurry. Please observe the safety and disposal instructions given in the latest safety data sheet.
